Stuart Richey: A Note from the USI Forum Chair

s_richeyI am pleased update you on the outcomes of the Second United Seafood Industries (USI) Forum.  The Forum was held on the 13th-14th of July in Melbourne and had a good cross section of people from across the industry in attendance.

The main focus of the meeting was to consider, adopt and/or amend the recommendations of the USI Task Force led by Martin Exel.

I am delighted with the outcomes of the discussions, particularly the unanimous view that the peak body proposal should now move into its next phase, which is to consult widely with industry on the recommendations with a view to having the National peak body operational as soon as practically possible.

I would like to thank all members of the Task Force, and Inovact Consulting, for their work on developing the recommendations for the peak body project. I would particularly like to thank the Industry Forum attendees for their considered views that have resulted in the draft proposal for a National peak industry body that you can download here.

Veronica Papacosta and her Implementation Group have the ideas and enthusiasm to bring this project to a successful conclusion and I ask all industry people during this consultation phase to listen to them, to question them and if satisfied with the proposal to support its implementation.

In closing, I would like to thank the Federal Government and Senator Anne Ruston for their support in the development of this peak body project
