Summary of the Second Meeting (15 September 2016) of the Seafood Industry Australia Implementation Group
Written by Chair of the USI Implementation Group, Veronica Papacosta
The Seafood Industry Australia Implementation Group met via teleconference on the 15th of September to discuss the progress of the Seafood Industry Australia project.
I have been very impressed with the effort of those involved in the project, with Seafood Industry Australia having committed 36 pledges and $324,300 in funding so far.
The meeting concentrated on the progress made by each Implementation Group member on engaging industry and facilitating pledges of commitment. Each member discussed the consultations that they had already made and stakeholders who they were planning on engaging with.
I also discussed my upcoming consultation plans to travel to South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria.
I am planning on attending the National Aquaculture Council annual general meeting in Adelaide on the 25th of October, as well as the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation (FRDC) research development portfolio meeting on the 26th and 27th of October (also in Adelaide). If you would like to get in contact with me while I am there, please send an email to email@example.com.
As stated in the second teleconference summary, I had a very beneficial discussion with Senator Anne Ruston (Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources) who reaffirmed the Government’s commitment and willingness to get the peak body up and running. Senator Ruston has now written a letter of recommendation for the Seafood Industry Australia project, which can be viewed on the project website http://unitedseafoodindustries.com.au/senator-anne-ruston-letter-to-the-united-seafood-industries-implementation-group-chair/.
I look forward to keeping you updated on the Implementation Group’s progress. If you are interested in pledging commitment to Seafood Industry Australia, you can do so via the following link http://pledges.unitedseafoodindustries.com.au/.
