About the Task Force

Why was the Task Force formed?

The Task Force was formed to create a draft model for a Peak Industry Body, which aims to ensure that the preferred structure and funding model is both commercially relevant and likely to add value to seafood businesses. The Taskforce will be working closely with the Project Manager to respond to the terms of reference decided upon by business leaders at the United Seafood Industries Forum.

The outcome from the Task Force will be provided to the next meeting of the United Seafood Industries Forum (in July 2016) for consideration and refinement, before being released for broader, and comprehensive, industry discussion and input.

Who formed the Task Force?

The Task Force was formed by the attendees of the United Seafood Industries Forum held in Adelaide on the 30/31 of March, and includes a sub-set of people from that Forum. The formation of a Task Force was recommended in the ‘Progress and Next Steps’ Report released in February 2016.

Who is on the Task Force?

The Task Force is chaired by Martin Exel of Austral Fisheries. To see the full list of Taskforce members and their biographies, click here.

Why aren’t I, or my organisation, part of the Task Force?

The Task Force is a sub-set of industry members who were invited to the United Seafood Industries Forum meeting in Adelaide.  Not every industry sector is included, nor is every Fishery or State association. The aim is to provide a different approach to the ones that have failed in the past to form a peak national body, and see if it is possible to create a successful Peak National Body proposal that can be supported by our Industry.

How will I know what the Task Force is doing?

The Task Force will be meeting several times in the coming 3 months, and will be putting summaries of the outcomes of those meetings and progress made onto the United Seafood Industries website. In addition, the Task Force will be sending email summaries to those registered on the USI website as interested parties or those who signed up to download the Progress and Next Steps Report.

How can I have my input?

At this point in time, the best idea would be to monitor the progress reports from the Task Force, and consider the outputs once it finalises the draft proposal in late June, 2016.

That proposal will be available for consideration, and you can provide input to members on the United Seafood Industries Forum group, who will be meeting in mid-July.  There will be further opportunity for input once any proposal is released for broader industry comment, following the July Forum meeting.

If you feel there are critical issues in relation to the Task Force Terms of Reference, which either need to be addressed or should not be considered at this stage in the process, please provide your input and suggestions in writing and send them via email to taskforce@unitedseafoodindustries.com.au or via post to Inovact Consulting at United Seafood Industries GPO Box 2067 Canberra City ACT 2601.
